LSEA Iain Johnstone

Iain Johnstone's employer, the Waitahuna School Board of Trustees, received a 2009 Employer of the Year Award for their continuing support of his part-time Navy career.

"I am very fortunate in having a school that recognises and encourages my involvement in the Navy Reserves." said Iain Johnstone on hearing of his employer's award success. 

"Through the training, challenges and opportunities the Navy has given me, I feel I have developed considerably as a person.

This, together with the confidence and team ethos instilled in Navy personnel, has had a positive impact  on my day-to-day classroom teaching and school leadership roles.

In many ways my civilian job and military job complement each other and provide me with varied experiences and strengths I can use when needed.

Waitahuna School have been very flexible in terms of allowing me time away for training  and sea time.

This is returned by my personal commitment to the school."
