The Directorate

The Directorate of Reserve Forces and Youth Development (DRFYD) is responsible for developing and delivering the Reserve Force (ResF) and Youth Development strategy throughout the New Zealand Defence Force.

The directorate is located in Wellington within Headquarters New Zealand Defence Force and is overseen by the Director General of Reserve Forces and Youth Development, Brigadier G.S (Sean) Trengrove ADC, MVO, DSD. The directorate is part of the Staff of the Vice Chief of Defence Force (external link).

The role of the DRFYD is to:

• Develop and implement Reserve Forces strategy and policy,
• Manage Employer Support initiatives for the Reserve Forces,
• Support the Territorial Force Employers Support Council (TFESC).
• Support, through partnership with the Government, NZDF youth development initiatives, and
• Support, through partnership with the community, the New Zealand Cadet Forces.
